Jury Duty

Jury duty is one of those things that anyone that is considered an adult can be called for. When you get contacted for jury duty, that means that you could potentially be a juror on a very important case. Or you could be a juror for a case that is not high profile. But every citizen of the United States that is legally considered an adult could be called for duty.

Some people love being on jury duty. It gives them a chance to see that justice is being served, whether they find the person guilty or innocent. And for those who are fascinated by the legal process, it could almost be considered a once in a lifetime experience, especially if the case is high profile. But some people do not like to be called for jury duty. They feel as if it disrupts their lives. So when they are called, they panic and dread it. How an individual handles the call for jury duty could vary considerably.

So what happens if you do get called for jury duty? Well, that does not mean that you will actually get to sit in on the court. Sometimes they call more jurors than they need and then hold a series of interviews. Some of the people may be asked to go home if they do not fit the profile of the type of jury that they need. Regardless, people who get called are required to show up to the court at the time they are supposed to. They should not be late. And if they do need to sit in on a case, they are required to be part of the whole process, even if it takes a month. Their work place is required to let them go. It looks very bad for the company if someone where to tell the judge that their boss wouldn’t let them come.

There are a few things to remember if you do get called for jury duty. The first is to show up on time. The second is to make sure that you are prepared to stick it out no matter how long it takes. Also, you need to be well dressed since you will be appearing in court and make sure that you do not let yourself have a biased opinion of the situation and weigh all of the evidence.
