Kimonos
Kimonos are the beautiful method of tradition dress for the Japanese. They are a simple robe-like structure that needs to be wrapped a certain way. They can be made of different materials and have a variety of different patterns. In many ways, the intricacy of the pattern and the material itself is a sign of your wealth. If the design is simple and the material is cheap, it shows that you lack money. But if the design on your kimono is intricate and made of silk, then that shows that you have both taste and money. The kimono is a status symbol.
Since it is a status symbol, not only do you need to have the right kimono but you also need to be able to tie and fold it appropriately. There is a method to it and it could take some time to understand what that method is. If you need to learn how to wear a kimono, it is a good idea to have someone show you. If you get it wrong those who know how to wear them and tie them correctly will not be impressed. Even though we in the United States may feel as if the kimono is ‘just a costume’ there are those who take it more seriously than that. This is a classic and traditional way of dressing for those in Japan and it needs to be treated as such.
If you decide that you want to buy your own kimono,it is a good idea to understand that it is something to be treated as respect. So instead of buying something just as a joke, take it seriously and buy the traditional costume. If you decide to buy the traditional kimono you have several choices. You can buy a kimono online, in a specialty store, or in a catalog or on the internet. You may want to buy a simple kimono or you could opt for something more expensive. It depends on your budget and the impression that you want to give people with your kimono.
But understand that just buying it and wearing it is not enough. You need to know how to put it on in the proper way and make sure that you carry yourself with dignity and respect when You are wearing it.
