Mythology
Mythology comes from the Greek retelling of stories in their culture. While Greek mythology is the most popular of them all, there are many different types of mythology out there including Roman, Chinese, and Japanese mythology. Regardless of the culture that the mythology comes from people find it timeless because the stories contain morals and lessons that can still be applied to situations in our lives today.
The characters in mythology are either gods, children of gods, or have a connection to them. We all love a good story with strong characters but the emotions and personal aspects of these characters can be found in ourselves and those around us. While we know that our friend isn’t really Hercules he may have many similar qualities including always being a hero by rescuing you when you need it. He may be the most courageous person you know.
For those that believe in fate, mythology serves as a backboard for their theories. In mythology there are often stories found about various characters that take an action to prevent something from happening to them. However the course of events that are put into motion from that point on ironically are what leads to that scenario taking place. I guess this instills the believe many have about you can’t escape from your fate. However those who believe they are in charge of their own destiny strongly disagree.
Since most mythological stories have been passed down from generation to generation many of them carry some historical events in them. However the biggest problem with this is that over time where they historical reality ends and the mythological story begins become enterwined. This blurs the reality of the actual events that took place. The biggest example of this is the story of Troy and the Trojan Horse.
Many people believe that modern movies have a strong mythological background to them as well. Some of these include Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter. While mythology is generally stories that are verbally told or found in books. However there have been many great movies made about characters in mythology including Hercules, and Clash of the Titans which features the story of Perseus.
