The game of Rugby has been played since 1823 when a football player named William Webb Ellis made some variations to the game. This sport is very similar to what is known as football. There are fifteen players for each team on the field at a time and the object of the game is to move the ball towards the goal. If you are able to reach the other end of the field your team scores four points. The team with control of the ball has six tries to get the ball to the goal or they have to give it up to the opposing team. The game consists of two forty minute playing periods.

Rugby Club

Rugby clubs have been formed in many countries; with several of them have a very long history. The first Rugby club was established in 1863 called the Barnes club. This Rugby club is known for helping get the official rules for game play established as well as encouraging players to join the sport.

With the increased popularity of Rugby games, spectators are finding tickets to the best games harder to come by. The tickets that are available are often quite expensive. The most expensive Rugby tickets are those for the World Cup games that are held every four years. Many Rugby fans find purchasing season tickets to be a very good alternative to buying tickets for each game. This also allows them to have great seats for each game that are in the same location.

Rules of Rugby

Rugby is a very popular contact sport that has many similarities to football. Two teams play against each other on a grassy field with yard lines just like in the game of football. Each game consists of two 40 minute periods of play. During this time each team tries to move the ball to the goal line in six or less tries. Getting the ball to the goal line is worth four points.

World Cup Rugby

The most prestigious Rugby game played every four years is for the World Cup. The World Cup is called the William Webb Ellis Cup because he is the founder of the game of Rugby. To determine who gets to play in the World Cup game, various qualifying tournaments are held. This narrows the possible World Cup teams down to twenty teams from all over the world. The teams play against each other based on their overall ranking. The series of games leading up to the World Cup final game is about one month.
