Yankee Stadium
Yankee stadium which is still known as the ´house´ that was ´built´ by ´Ruth´, was actually the first ever baseball park, that was considered as a ´stadium´ instead of being called a ´park´, or a ´field´, or a ´ground´.
Initially, Yankee stadiums used to have a field that was bounded by a, what may be called ´misshapen´, running track, running for length of about a quarter mile. This used to serve as a ´warning track´ to the fielders. In fact even today this feature is observed in all ballparks for major leagues. These are known as the ´short porch´; in spite of the fact that now the fields are found to be more symmetric these days.
Yankee stadiums tend to favor those batters that are left handed, because of the right-field fences that are much shorter. When the stadium was first built, there was a lot of criticism and discussion over this feature of the Yankee stadium. Since it clearly favored the left-handed hitters, it even succeeded in the creating of famous stars like Babe Ruth.
Yankee stadium is also considered as the birth place of the now well known football chant of ´Dee-FENSE´, which was probably fist used at this stadium for the purpose of referring to the historical giant defense by the Sam Huff.
Yankee stadium is a place which has marked a number of historically important events such as the event of the tragic farewell addresses of Babe Ruth in 1948, and that of the Lou Gehrig in the year 1939.Yankee stadium also continues to remind us of the records made by Babe Ruth, Roger Maris, Reggie Jackson, etc.
Yankee stadiums continue to be as popular as ever. Ever since it first opened in the year 1923, the Yankee stadiums have supported thirty seven of the eighty three of total World Series (out of which the Yankees have won for twenty six times).
Though Yankee stadiums are still criticized by many, because of the various complexities involved in its form and structure, it continues to thrill many. It is in fact more preferred by many fans to the other conventional type stadiums that have less of the ´Yankee´ feel to offer!
