Best Surfing Beaches

The Canary Islands in Spain has the best surfing beach in the world. The best time to go is October to March because of the consistently big swells. If you aren’t into surfing, the volcanic Timanfaya National Park and the wonderful views afforded by the Mirador del R’o should not be missed.

The second best surfing beach in the world is Hossegor in Cote D’argent, France. The best time of the year to visit this surfing beach is August to October for warm water; Spring to avoid the crowds.

While you aren’t surfing at Hossegor, the villages and lakes leading up to the Côte d’Argent to the north are a lot of fun to tour. To the south, the historical Basque city of Bayonne, and the elegant resort of Biarritz are also great destinations.

Jeffrey’s Bay in South Africa has great surfing. The waves there are categorized intermediate to expert. Surfers find that Jeffreys, near Port Elizabeth, lives up to its reputation as the world’s best right-hand point-break. The crowds at the beach are a hazard. Other hazards for surfing are sharks, although dolphins are a more common sight.

Kirra Beach in Australia is best for surfing from May to August. This beach is in the heart of Australia’s surfing territory and catching a wave there requires a lot of competition. While you are visiting Kirra Beach, you should visit the subtropical rainforests of the hills inland and the much quieter coastline of New South Wales.

Uluwatu is number ten on the list of best surfing beaches. This beach is in Bali, Indonesia. The best surfing conditions for Bali are from January to August. This is a beautiful beach where the wave breaks over a shallow coral reef in front of cliffs on which a Hindu temple is set.

The best surfing beach in the United States is Sunset Beach. Sunset Beach is in the state of Hawaii and the best time for surfing there is between November and March. The waves here are for experts only. Sunset Beach is on the other side of Oahu from Honolulu.
