The Importance of the Table Tennis Net

In almost all sports where there is a need to divide the area into two, it is the net that is usually the designated divider. Two popular examples of sports that uses net are badminton and tennis. It will not be a surprise then if table tennis said to be inspired by tennis will also have a net with the same purpose. The table tennis net serves as a guide for the opposing players during the duration of the entire match. It is also vital for players in terms of scoring points. Players should always be on the look out for their side of the court - that is one of the keys to winning matches in table tennis.

The History of Table Tennis

One sport that is often seen on television in channels such as ESPN is table tennis. This is often called the miniature version of tennis because the rules are almost the same. The only difference was that this is on a smaller scale and played indoors.

Early evidence gathered how tennis table came to be a known Olympic Sports game, owe its credits to the British Army officers assigned in South Africa and India the year l880. A number of versions of names affiliation, "whiff whaff" and "gossima" by Parker Brothers; who manufactured a portable kit that included a table net, a netted-round ball, and a small wooden paddle, later, a more acceptable name based on its sound relevance on playtimes was created, and soon to this day, is by-word name of the sport, "ping pong"
