In communities where wakeboarding is big, there are a lot of different competitions out there that are a great thing to enter. They can not only help you see how good you are, but you can get ideas from other competitors. Set a goal to enter a competition and follow through. You don´t have to be the best out there right away. But it is a good experience to get started with the competitions early in your career so that you can get used to it and become a better performer. These things are essential if you want to take wakeboarding seriously. However, you can be serious about without competing. That is, of course, your choice.
