Also, look for people who are lurking around the area. A lot of ATM machines have cameras by them and would-be thieves know this so they try to get you off camera. If there are lurkers, avoid going to that machine and go somewhere else. You can also report any activity of the kind to local authorities especially if you see the individuals there a lot.
