ATM Safety
ATM safety is something that you should really be concerned with. That is because ATM machines are a breeding ground for potential crimes. It is pretty easy for a thief to scope out a lot of ATM locations, especially those that are located at bars, restaurants, gas stations or are simply out in the open. However, following ATM safety procedures is a good way to make sure that you stay safe and don’t get robbed while using ATM machines.
ATM machines are a great convenience. They allow you to get your cash twenty four hours a day. This means that if you need money at 2 AM you can have access to it as long as you can find an ATM machine. Unfortunately, the very thing that makes it convenient is also one of the things that can potentially make it unsafe. There are certain locations and certain places for ATM machines that make it a breeding ground for crime. However, all ATM machines should be treated with caution.
Basic ATM safety advice is mostly based on common sense. Try to avoid going to ATM machines in bad areas. Another good piece of advice is to also avoid visiting ATM machines at night unless you are with a large group. If you are alone, try to go to ATM machines that are enclosed in a little hut or that you can drive up to. It is harder to get robbed from your vehicle. Also, look for people who are lurking around the area. A lot of ATM machines have cameras by them and would-be thieves know this so they try to get you off camera. If there are lurkers, avoid going to that machine and go somewhere else. You can also report any activity of the kind to local authorities especially if you see the individuals there a lot.
If you use ATM machines a lot, make sure you follow ATM safety procedures. These include using them in numbers, avoiding using the ones in bad areas, and making sure there isn’t any suspicious activity around them. If you want to make yourself extra safe, you can learn some self defense techniques so you can protect yourself.
