The first jukebox was introduced in 1889. The original name of it was an Automatic Coin Operating Phonograph. It was a coin operated machine placed in a bar in San Francisco, California. It was a huge hit. At a quarter per song, the jukebox made $1,000 in only six months. The jukebox continued to be very popular until the 1930’s. Due to the depression and free radio, the jukebox wasn’t used as often as before. They remained in the facilities but did not get those precious quarters that were needed for more important necessities.

MP3 Player Jukebox

The MP3 Player jukebox is the hottest music gadget out on the market today. The Dell model is the top seller. In fact, in February of 2006 Dell announced it will no longer sell their hard drive players. This leaves them to focus on the MP3 Player jukebox. These music players use a processor for the CPU. This also serves as the interface for the menus and play lists.

Wurlitzer Jukebox

The Wurlitzer jukebox was introduced in 1933 and continued to be manufactured until 1987. Each jukebox manufactured had a unique name rather than being called a jukebox. The Wurlitzer Company has been in the music business since 1856. They were one of the first companies who began making jukeboxes, known then as coin operated phonographs. The decision was made to stop making them in 1987 do to the digital jukeboxes that were emerging and being used.
