Greek Mythology

Greek mythology is filled with wonderful stories that include Zeus and eleven other gods who lived on Mount Olympus. They continually interacted with humans resulting in relationships and even offspring with humans. The stories of Greek mythology are full of historical information that is true of the times. Some of it isn’t though and those parts of the stories are often presumed to be true.

One of the reasons why Greek mythology still holds our interest after all of this time is the underlying factors in many of the stories relate to experiences we all have in today’s society. The heroes can be anyone of us successfully beating the villain at the game. The characters in Greek mythology are fascinating as well.

Many stories in Greek mythology offer stories that are lessons to be learned. One must believe this is how they taught the youth of their time in Greece. It probably worked better than the way parents tell their children about things today. These lessons include vanity, greed, compassion, perseverance, and honor.

Other stories tell of the history of Greece and how it was built up over time. As with every culture there are stories to tell about the creation of the Earth. Those of Greek mythology have to do with the gods and how they came to rule from Mount Olympus.

It also helps to bridge the gap between men and god. The stories explore the concept that once upon a time men and gods freely lived together. The one area where the gods are compared to human males is in the seduction and sometimes raping of mortal women who they fancied. Even those that were consentual relationships often didn’t go well. The moral of all these stories though is that there is a reason why men and gods should not walk the world as one.

Greek mythology is very fascinating no matter what story you read about. The characters all have real strengths and weaknesses we can all relate to. The stories are timeless as they can be applied to any time period in the world and any culture. Change the location and change the characters but the fundamentals stories and lessons in life basically remain the same.
