Taxis

In our fast pace world a taxi is a valuable mode of transportation. It is generally a car or even a mini van that transports people from one location to another for payment. You will find taxis in major cities and wherever there is an airport. Taxis are often used by individuals who are on vacation and need a ride somewhere. It is more convenient then renting a car because you don’t have to pay for parking or figure out directions. You can also enjoy alcoholic beverages at the location while being responsible about how you will get back to your place of origin.

A taxi may be owned and operated by an independent operator or by a business that offers several taxis such as the famous Yellow Cab Service. Each taxi operator must have a valid driver’s license for the state in which they operate. Some states require them to pass an exam as well to become certified.

The cost of a taxi cab ride depends on the location where you are headed. Each taxi has a set rate per mile that should be readily available for you to see before you commit to riding in it. If you are going to want the taxi to wait for you somewhere and then bring you back it is important to realize that the meter will continue to run while they wait. A sitting taxi is one that isn’t making any money so you will have to accommodate this factor.

In major parts of large cities taxis are a dime a dozen on every street corner. They are often lined up at busy hotels and the various airports. The strip in Las Vegas is another place where you will find multiple taxis ready to take you anywhere you desire. All you have to do is get into a taxi line or flag one down on the street.

Those that are on duty generally have a lit sign on top so you know who is available and who isn’t. In other locations you may have to call the taxi cab company and ask for a car to be sent for you. It is considered proper etiquette to give the cab driver a tip of about 15% of the cab fare.
