The first rubber balloons were made in 1824 by a professor to use in experiments with hydrogen. Today balloons are small, rubber bags that are filled with air. They are common for birthday parties and games. There are numerous types of balloons including hot air balloons, helium balloons, and powered balloons. They may float if they are filled with helium. There are three types of balloons: captive, free-floating, and powered.

Captive balloons are anchored to the ground or other solid fixture. They are often used in advertising. Powered balloons are also referred to as blimps. Free-floating balloons are controlled by a pilot, but directed by the wind.

Hot Air Balloons

The first hot air balloon took flight in 1783. The passengers were anything but ordinary: a duck, a sheep, and a rooster. They remained in the air for 15 minutes, and then crashed to the ground. Various attempts took place over the next few years from difference sources. They flight time slowly increased as changes were made to the design.

Birthday Balloons

It is often difficult to think of a birthday gift for someone.

Sending a birthday balloon bouquet as a birthday gift is a fun alternative. Such bouquets come in a variety of sizes and themes. There are black balloons for over the hill birthdays, basic colored balloons, and Mylar balloons with various designs on the front of them. The bouquets often come with a pretty anchor and a bag of candy.

Helium Balloons

Helium balloons are most used for birthday parties, graduations, weddings, and other types of celebrations. Helium balloon kits hit the market in the United States in 1984. They were sold by Worthington Cylinders. Helium balloons fascinate people of all ages, from very small to very old. Most of us have inhaled the helium from a balloon, just to get a laugh from talking funny for a few seconds.

Most of us have sent someone flowers, but have you ever sent balloons? It is a fun alternative to traditional gifts. Most everyone enjoys balloons, no matter how young or old they are. Many flower shops offer balloons for delivery. There are also shops that specialize only in balloon bouquets. If you don’t have a shop locally, there are websites and 800 numbers you can call to get them delivered most anywhere.
