Magic tricks have been a popular form of entertainment for many years. Originally people who practiced illusions and slight of hands were thought to be powerful wizards and witches. Today they still induce wonder and amazement in the audiences they perform for. Masters of the skill have spent years one-upping each other for the best stunt, competing not only with each other but also with long-gone masters like Houdini and Dai Vernon.

Whether you want to invest the considerable time and become a master or just learn a few easy magic tricks to impromptu impress a group of people, you have to start somewhere. Follows are three easy magic tricks that anyone can learn and master in a relatively short period of time.

Two Towers

The very easy magic card trick involves separating a deck into red and black card beforehand an appearing to casually divide the deck in front of an audience. Knowing exactly the right place to divide the deck is the most difficult part of the trick. Another person is asked to choose a card from one pile, or tower, and memorize it before placing it into the other pile. By holding each pile and fanning them out, you distract from the fact that you are switching piles. To find the participants card, all you have to do is pull out the differently colored card from the pile. Voila, instant amazement and prestige.

Telekinesis

All you’ll need to perform this easy magic trick is a book and a pencil. Start off by announcing to a group of people that you are about to perform a feat of telekinesis, using this very ordinary book and pencil. Then you place the pencil on the book, wave your hands above the pencil, lower your head and mumble some magic words and!the pencil starts moving without anyone touching it! The secret behind this magic trick is easy.

When you place the pencil on the book, be sure to balance it precariously on the edge of the book. Then when you lower your head, secretly blow air out of your mouth onto the book to your side of the pencil. The air will be strong enough to move the pencil and most of your audience will be either focusing on your waving hands, or the pencil itself and will be none the wiser.

Coin Vanish

This is an oldie but a goodie in the easy magic trick world. Announce to your public that you are able to make a coin disappear simply by rubbing it against your elbow. Borrow a coin from a member of the audience and while holding it in your right hand, start rubbing it on your left elbow. The first two times you try the trick you fail but all it takes is switching hands to get the easy magic trick to work.

The secret behind this easy magic trick is that when you switch coins from your right hand to your left hand, you only pretend to transfer the coin. Therefore the coin is still in your right hand when it appears to have disappeared from your left. You then pretend to pull the coin from behind someone’s ear, or other odd place to the amazement of the group.

Although learning magic could take a very long time, there are some simple magic tricks that you can learn in just a few hours. Simple magic tricks such as those mental tricks that involve mathematical computation are quite easy to learn especially if you are very good at numbers. Pretending to be a psychic who is able to read minds is not really difficult. You just pretend to concentrate on what you are doing by asking your audience to stay as quite and still as possible. Pause for a few minutes for a more dramatic effect. To make you more successful in your career as a magician performing simple magic tricks, here are some tips for you.

Although lot of us sees magic as just a form of entertainment, there are many people out there who take magic very seriously. They see magic as a way of life that they would really think kindly if somebody would attempt to make their magic trick exposed. Magicians work in secrecy and the do not like to get their magic trick exposed especially to their avid followers.

In most cases, magicians take an oath to keep their trade secrets hidden at all times. The only time that most magicians would have their magic tricks exposed is when they are teaching some of their most promising apprentices. Even then, some magicians would not reveal their not reveal their best magic tricks to their apprentice until such time when their apprentice is ready to take on the responsibility of harnessing their magical powers and using it only for good and honorable purposes.

The Mentor And Apprentice Relationship

In the olden times, an apprentice will need to live with the magician for a long time and serve as his or her understudy. A glimpse of the life of a magician in the olden times can be seen in the story of Merlin the magician of King Arthur’s court. Although Merlin the magician may just be a fictional character, the writer of the story probably based his facts of the lives of magicians at that time.

Of course magicians at that time may not really have the proverbial skills and powers of Merlin but the fact is that many magicians at that time have their own understudies who were supposed to continue their work which they are gone. Since these magicians in the past believe that perpetuating the art of magic can only happen if they teach the art to their apprentices, they do not really hesitate to have their magic trick exposed to their students. Besides, the bond between the old magician and his or her understudy was often so strong that the two of them become like family.

In our present times, magicians still have their own understudies. However, there are now many magic schools all over the country where magicians teach their students magical tricks. Although the bonds between teacher and students nowadays may not be as a strong as it used to be, teachers are still inclined to teach their students magic tricks to keep the art of magic alive. However, since competition is quite stiff today, some magicians are hesitant to have all their magic tricks exposed to their students.

Some of the good card tricks are truly amazing, and the entire audience usually wonders just how the magician did it. Most magicians will not reveal the secrets of a good card trick because that would ruin the card trick for any future audience. Most good card tricks are done with an ordinary deck of cards, and often the magician will use a deck of cards from someone in the audience. Other good card tricks are accomplished with a special deck of cards that are designed and manufactured especially for mesmerizing card tricks. These decks of cards can be purchased from magic stores, and then almost anyone can do a good card trick with one of the special decks.

Some card tricks are done by magicians who ask a member of the audience to memorize one of the cards shown to the audience. The audience member is instructed to stare at the card and remember exactly which card that they chose. The magician will then be able to tell the audience member and all of the others exactly which card was chosen. There is now at least one website on the internet which does exactly the same card trick. Believe it or not the designer of the website can choose the card that was picked by a viewer. How this card trick works is known to only a few excellent magicians.

Card Tricks Come In Several Categories

These tricks with cards fall into categories according to some of the skills involved. Some of these tricks are designed especially for beginners because they are very easy to perform. The directions are very simple so even a youngster should be able to do some of the easy tricks with cards. Some of these are a little more difficult, but an older child can do the even some of the more sophisticated tricks with cards. These tricks sometimes depend on mathematical principles. Others depend on an audience that thinks they are watching carefully, but they miss certain movements that the magician makes to ensure that they trick the audience.

Most people are not totally observant, and they do miss some of the motions made by a good magician. Some of the tricks that magicians do with cards take a good deal of preparation and chatter while the trick is performed. Often the master magician distracts the audience with one move while making another. The audience intent on one interesting movement completely misses another move on which the trick depends for success.

A good magic trick can mesmerize people who wonder how the magician could be so clever. There are amateur magicians who perform for any audience they can find, and there are master magicians who have thousands flock to their magnificent shows. The amateurs might have only a few tricks, and the secrets of their magic trick revealed to their audience will ruin their tricks forever. They rarely tell others exactly how they do their tricks. The professionals who draw the gigantic audiences would lose many customers if their magic tricks revealed reached future audiences.

Most magicians understand that a magic trick revealed rarely has interest when people know the process behind the magic trick. A magician may use sleight of hand or diversions to distract an audience, but once the audience knows how the trick works they will not find that trick interesting any more. Part of the allure of a magic trick is the curiosity about the process. A magic trick revealed eliminates this curiosity about the process. People that know how to do a magic trick do not have to watch anybody else do the trick. They can do it themselves at any time.

A Magic Trick Revealed Creates More Amateur Magicians

Many magicians have an allegiance to fellow magicians, and they never reveal their secrets because they would be harming the others. A magic trick revealed can increase the competition for an audience. While many magicians stick together to protect their secrets, there are some who provide the information on magic tricks. Some websites on the internet give detailed information and pictures on doing popular tricks. The video tapes on these websites show the entire process so almost anyone can do the magic trick. There are books available that also provide detailed information including pictures on magic tricks.

Magic has always had a fascination for people and hopefully these informational vehicles will not reach so many people that these tricks lose their fascination. These magic tricks have been fun and entertainment for many years. Many of the magic tricks work by creating illusions or even deceptions. There is a danger that magic tricks will lose their allure if many people know how they work because they might feel that the magician tricked them rather than doing something masterful. Magic is fun for people of all ages and genders. These tricks provide a magical respite from the responsibilities of life so magicians with their wonderful tricks will hopefully continue to make the world a fascinating place.

Sleight of hand tricks have had the power to amaze for as long as cards have been around. While some of the more advanced illusions may be out of your grasp at the moment it is easy to learn how to do a simple card trick in order to impress the general masses, namely your friends and family. It’s easy to see the reasons behind learning how to do a card trick and can be accomplished in less than one day under most circumstances.

The three parts of any magic, or card trick, includes the Effect, which is basically the part of the trick that amazes people; the preparation which is what the magician needs to set up ahead of time; and the Performance, which is the razzle-dazzle that the magician does during the trick. By practicing and mastering these three elements, you’ll soon know how to do a card trick that will amaze your friends. For the purpose of this article we will be discussing how to do a Two-Towers card trick.

The Effect

A participant is presents with two piles (towers) of cards and asked to select one from either pile, his or her own choice. Then the participant is asked to show the audience the card, slide the card anywhere in the opposite pile from the one the card was chosen from and shuffle the new pile immediately and thoroughly. The magician (you!) then amazes everyone by easily picking out the participants card from the new pile.

The Preparation

I’m sure if you’ve figured out how to do this card trick from the effect. If you haven’t then you’ll be surprised to find out that the two towers of cards are prepared ahead of time by the magician. Before you perform the trick, when no one is around, separate the deck into red and black piles of cards and place them on top of each other. Make sure no one from the audience sees you do this!

The Performance

At the start of the trick, casually divide the deck into two piles. It may take you some practice in order to get the division right, so practicing this part of the trick beforehand. Dividing the deck is the trickiest part of learning how to do this card trick but really is more just getting a feel for half of the deck. Choose a participant from the audience and ask them to choose one tower. Fan the cards from that pile and ask the spectator to pick one card.

Share it with the audience and slip it the other tower, which by now you have fanned out in front of the participant. Hand over the pile and request that the audience member thoroughly shuffle the deck as much as they want. Then you take the pile back, look through the cards and the one of a different color is the one the participant chose. Now everyone is amazed with your knowledge of how to do this fantastic card game.

This is a string magic trick that can leave the spectators totally amazed though the method applied requires a bit of simple trickery, which is enough to convince the spectators that the thread is indeed appearing to be coming out of the magician’s stomach. All that it requires is to create a pocket on the stomach into which is placed an exact duplicate of the string, which has a small piece sticking out.

Of course, you have to make sure that this pocket looks exactly like your skin and the magician actually does not even swallow the string; instead, it is hidden between the thumb and fingers and the whole act should be convincing enough for the spectators to believe that the string has actually been swallowed. It is more a question of good acting rather than any plan, and it requires that the magician creates a convincing illusion that he has pushed the thread down his throat and then extracted it from his stomach.

Another interesting string magic trick is one in which a piece of brown twine is cut by a spectator and the magician shows the two pieces far apart to prove that the string is indeed two different pieces altogether. Then, with the help of magic the string is restored into one single piece. The technique behind this simple string magic trick is to have some ‘magician’s wax’ applied on each end of the twine. The magician then gets the spectator to cut the string and keeps his hands far apart.

Through a simple sleight of the hand that requires a bringing together of the hands so that the waxed ends meet and overlap, you can get the string to join together once more upon a tight squeezing of both ends between thumb and fingers. Once the two separate ends are joined together thanks to the magician’s wax, you will have the two pieces joined as one, which will convince the spectators that something magical has been done to create a single thread from two pieces.

There are many other string magic tricks because the magician is an enterprising person that always thinks up new and novel tricks to perform. These were but a couple of instances of popular string magic tricks.

The key to performing successful magic tricks lies in the fact that the magician should be able to create the perfect illusion that what is impossible is actually taking place. He may need to do tricks with the left hand while the spectators are focused on his right hand and that too in the blinking of an eye. In fact, according to the history of magic, it was once considered that magicians were in possession of super-natural powers in order to execute magic tricks, and magic has also had a close association with religion as well.

However, from the times when magicians were supposed to influence the weather to the ancient Egyptian and Chinese forms of magic a lot of water has flown beneath the bridge, and today you can simply use a magic trick book to learn the secrets behind the various magic tricks contained therein. In fact, there are so many magic trick books available today that you would lose count of them if you tried to find out just how many there really were.

A Certain Charm

Even though today’s modern technology has transformed the magic book into CDs, DVDs and online downloads, there is still a certain charm to learning magic tricks with the help of a magic trick book. And, there are also some magic trick books that delve only on particular types of magic tricks and some that go the whole hog and contain many tricks.

And, the tricks you will learn are sure to be very smart and very mystifying that will certainly add to the repertoire of magic tricks that you will want to master.

Another interesting magic trick book is named Tarbell Course in Magic, which though now available to one and all, was at one time only known to the magic community and was the brainchild of one Dr. Harlan Tarbell.

Contained between the covers are many of the best magic tricks you will want to learn including Sleight of Hand with Coins, The Thumb Tip, Mathematical Tricks, and many more. It comes with nifty illustrations that are just fewer than one thousand in all, and for a price of about thirty-five dollars, is good value for money.

In fact, the book titled Tarbell Course in Magic Series comprises eight volumes that are now readily available to the public at large, and it is sure to provide what no other magic trick book will in that you it will teach you virtually every trick that is of any worth having everything from the instructions to illustrations contained within their eight volumes.
