How To Do A Card Trick And Amaze Your Friends

Sleight of hand tricks have had the power to amaze for as long as cards have been around. While some of the more advanced illusions may be out of your grasp at the moment it is easy to learn how to do a simple card trick in order to impress the general masses, namely your friends and family. It’s easy to see the reasons behind learning how to do a card trick and can be accomplished in less than one day under most circumstances.

The three parts of any magic, or card trick, includes the Effect, which is basically the part of the trick that amazes people; the preparation which is what the magician needs to set up ahead of time; and the Performance, which is the razzle-dazzle that the magician does during the trick. By practicing and mastering these three elements, you’ll soon know how to do a card trick that will amaze your friends. For the purpose of this article we will be discussing how to do a Two-Towers card trick.

The Effect

A participant is presents with two piles (towers) of cards and asked to select one from either pile, his or her own choice. Then the participant is asked to show the audience the card, slide the card anywhere in the opposite pile from the one the card was chosen from and shuffle the new pile immediately and thoroughly. The magician (you!) then amazes everyone by easily picking out the participants card from the new pile.

The Preparation

I’m sure if you’ve figured out how to do this card trick from the effect. If you haven’t then you’ll be surprised to find out that the two towers of cards are prepared ahead of time by the magician. Before you perform the trick, when no one is around, separate the deck into red and black piles of cards and place them on top of each other. Make sure no one from the audience sees you do this!

The Performance

At the start of the trick, casually divide the deck into two piles. It may take you some practice in order to get the division right, so practicing this part of the trick beforehand. Dividing the deck is the trickiest part of learning how to do this card trick but really is more just getting a feel for half of the deck. Choose a participant from the audience and ask them to choose one tower. Fan the cards from that pile and ask the spectator to pick one card.

Share it with the audience and slip it the other tower, which by now you have fanned out in front of the participant. Hand over the pile and request that the audience member thoroughly shuffle the deck as much as they want. Then you take the pile back, look through the cards and the one of a different color is the one the participant chose. Now everyone is amazed with your knowledge of how to do this fantastic card game.
